Creative Alley Productions Presents Its First Evening Of Staged Readings
LOS ANGELES, CA.- March 11, 2002 – Creative Alley Productions – an independent film production company that develops and produces films by artists who work independently of the studio system– will present its first evening of staged readings it was announced today by cofounders Christian Keiber and Bryce Campbell. Founded in 2001, the film production company is currently etching a niche for itself between the major studios and the independent (art-house) films.
The reading series is a fulfillment of Creative Alley Productions' mission - to help independent filmmakers get their movies made. Playwright Michelle Mellgren ("Fate with a Capital F"), conceived the idea, and, along with Keiber and Campbell, will produce the staged reading series to help raise awareness and garner support for projects by talented, deserving, up-and-coming writers. The series is currently slated for BI-monthly performances with projects being chosen from a wide selection of artists, including college students and some more established writers.
"We are very excited to present a series designed by writers for writers," says Campbell. "This is a great opportunity for both established and non-established writers to showcase their latest works."
"Michelle is an incredibly talented artist, and we're lucky to have her give her creativity and dedication to this project," adds Keiber.
The inaugural event will be a reading of the screenplay "Iron Terry Malone", by Emmy-award-winner and author Robert John Keiber and Christian Keiber, on Wednesday, March 20th, at 8pm. on the mainstage of the Hudson Theater. ‘Iron Terry Malone’ is the story of a group of "regulars" in a neighborhood bar in Queens, New York, who decide to kill the infamous Iron Terry Malone, but he just will not die. The reading will feature the talents of Barry Papick (Howard Stern’s Private Parts, Finding Forrester), Bruno Gioiello (Celebrity, Mickey Blue Eyes), and Al Scaglione (The Godfather, Vegas). A complete cast list is available at www.creativealleyproductions.com. The reading is free and there will also be a complimentary beer and wine reception following, in honor of Creative Alley's commitment to be the production company friendly to the independent artist.
Michelle Mellgren comes to Creative Alley Productions from Texas, where she built her reputation as an actress and a writer. After moving to Los Angeles, she produced and starred in her own play, "Fate with a Capital F". In addition to creating and producing the reading series with Creative Alley, Mellgren has also just completed an acting roll in "Signs" with Fox Searchlight.
Mellgren says, "My goal is to create an atmosphere were actors can work, writers are heard, and directors and producers can find quality projects."
